Teaching has played a vital role in the formation and preservation of the people of God. In Old Testament times, the laws of God and the memory of His mighty saving acts were to be kept alive from generation to generation by means of diligent teaching. So well did God impress this fact upon Israel that by the time of Christ the Jews gave their teachers a higher respect than any other people.
